Australian Open 2013 – It’s Almost Here!

January 11, 2013 by kselz

2013-Djokovic-Azarenka-Draw-CeremonyThe first Slam of the year – the 2013 Australian Open – is almost here and I, for one, am ready to get back to the business of sitting alone in the dark on my couch in the wee early hours of the morning watching my favorite pros play tennis.  Seventeen hour time difference between me and Melbourne, Australia!  Yay!

The draw ceremony was held yesterday and was run by last year's champs – Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka.  Here's a photo from the ceremony – I think Novak is looking pretty hot in his Ray Bans and untucked shirt.

If you want to keep up with the Aussie Open, you can check in often here at Tennis Fixation because I'll be posting about it from the opening, on January 14, right up to the men's finals, on January 27.  You can also check out the tournament's official website – www.australianopen.com – which is crammed with useful info about the matches and the players.  You can also follow along mobile-y with the Australian Open app, available in iTunes, which is incredibly easy to use.  There is also an Android version and, while I haven't used it, I assume its just as zippy.

On a somewhat related note, Maria Sharapova spent yesterday in Australia launching her Sugarpova candy line.  And look at this super cute dress she wore for the launch:

The flirty pleats! The open back! The adorable contrast in color! I LOVE THAT DRESS!  Why can't she wear something like that on the court?  Look, I've seen what she will be wearing for the Australian Open and I promise you – it is nowhere near as stunning as that Sugarpova dress.

BTW – While I'm waiting for the Australian Open to kick off, I'm not sitting around waiting for it this weekend.  I'm doing a 5K race on Saturday and then I have my Houston Half Marathon on Sunday.  So my couch time on Monday will be well-deserved.
