Tennis Fashion Fix: Australian Open 2013 – Roger Federer

January 23, 2013 by kselz

Roger Federer, Australian Open, fashion, tennisNo discussion of tennis fashion at the 2013 Australian Open would be complete without talking about Roger Federer.  Because Roger is, again, looking fabulous in pink.  Roger has done pink before.  I remember he was pretty dazzling at the 2010 Rogers Masters tournament in a Nike “Perfect Pink” polo-type top and taupe-y brown shorts.  (You can see a pic of that in this post – Federer Looks Good In Pink.)

At the Aussie Open, Roger has chosen to go with a more subdued “Stadium Gray” shirt with “Polarized Pink” and white highlights.  His headband also sports a pink Nike swoosh and his shorts are a dark gray “Anthracite” with a very subtle herringbone pattern.  All very elegant and classic, just like Roger.  Here's a photo to give you a better look:

But, hold on a second.  What about those shoes?  Nothing subdued happening there.  In fact, Roger is looking pretty brash and noticeable in his hot pink and black Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour shoes.  Get a load of these cuties:

These shoes are getting just as much press as Roger's relentless trip towards the finals (he just beat Jo Wilfred-Tsonga in a five set quarterfinal match setting up a semi-final meeting with Andy Murray).  Personally, I love these shoes and I love Roger for wearing them.  To those who see this as a “bold” choice on Federer's part, I say, “Really?  Do we all still think blue is for boys and pink is for girls?”  I'm pulling for Roger to win this year so I'm hoping to see these shoes in the finals.
